NEW ZEALAND. Aelia Duty Free (Lagardère Travel Retail) has started renovating its duty-free area at Auckland Airport, a core component of a broader retail innovation programme at the country’s premier gateway.
With completion slated for late 2026, the transformation will highlight an enhanced portfolio of brands and experiences, rolled out in phases to support the airport’s long-term retail strategy.
Lagardère Travel Retail took over solus arrivals and departures duty-free status on 1 June 2023, having (previously as LagardèreAWPL) shared space with Aer Rianta International in a dual-retailer model until that point.

The airport company emphasised traveller safety and convenience during the ongoing construction, while ensuring minimal disruption.
Despite ongoing upgrades, Auckland Airport and Lagardère Travel Retail continue to provide travellers with continued access to a wide range of duty-free offerings.

Stores will remain open and main walkways accessible throughout the year-long renovation project.
During construction, temporary walls and ceilings are being installed beyond security in the departures area, with staged work planned for the arrivals duty-free space in the coming months.

The store setup will be modified, with temporary shopping bays installed, and stores relocated during the renovation period.
More updates on the duty-free transformation and changes to the airport’s retail and food & beverage outlets will be shared in the coming months. ✈
