The House of Camus will exhibit three new vintages from its Rarissimes collection and launch a new clean-cut design for its Elegance range at the TFWA World Exhibition next month (stand number: Blue Village F11).
The design relaunch for the Elegance range is in line with the House’s 150th anniversary this year. The new gift boxes depict the outline of the Château du Plessis – home of the Camus family – with its stained-glass dome, while the bunch of grapes symbolises where this family of winegrowers comes from.
The new design also sees the iconic Camus clover leaf engraved into the glass bottles of Elegance VS and VSOP, as a reminder of the first ever bottles sold in 1863. Each bottle bears the signature of fifth generation President Cyril Camus, also the creator of the Elegance range.
In addition, each bottle has a screw cap and a unique QR code, serving both as an anti-counterfeiting traceability system and providing consumers with an opportunity to further their knowledge and experience in real-time via a direct link to www.camus.fr.
The Elegance range comprises the VS (US$44 for 1L in duty free), VSOP (US$65 for 1L), XO (US$200 for 1L) and Extra (US$400 for 70cl).

Describing its Rarissimes vintage cognacs as “an invitation to journey back in time, right to the heart of some very small family estates”, Camus is offering three new journeys in 2013: to 1970 in the Petite Champagne, to 1980 in the Grande Champagne and to 1988 in the Fins Bois.

The 1970 Petite Champagne Cognac |
1970 Petite Champagne Cognac
The year 1970 saw particularly favourable weather conditions – the hot, dry summer following on from a cold, rainy winter provided an ideal environment for growing grapes which produced top quality wines. These were distilled exclusively in 2,500-litre capacity stills, before being allowed to age in a dry cellar and eventually bottled at the balanced alcohol level of 46%. Only 588 bottles are available.
The 1970 Petite Champagne Cognac has a subtle floral bouquet. On the palate, it unravels to become silky and slightly spicy, with a hint of wood in the fruity middle palate (guava and candied orange). The finish is described as light, long, smooth and fruity (tropical fruits), with caramel-cream notes.
1980 Grande Champagne Cognac
Made from a tiny harvest, this 1980 Grande Champagne Cognac is considered very rare, limited to just 247 bottles. 1980 was a year marked by frosty cold weather, leaving the wines with a small content of fine lees and slowly distilled, exclusively in 2,500-litre stills. The result, according to Camus, is a subtle, complex version of one of the most highly regarded mono-crus in the Cognac region. This 1980 Grande Champagne Cognac underwent “an optimum ageing”, Camus added, including ten years in century-old oak, before being bottled at a balanced 46%.
The colour of the liquid is described as a very intense, deep golden-yellow. The bold nose – typical of distillation without the lees – opens into a combination of density with delicacy, with vanilla notes enhancing the intensity of oak.
1988 Fins Bois Cognac
Available in a limited edition of 838 bottles, this 1988 Fins Bois Cognac recalls a late flowering period which enabled the grapes to reach a striking balance between fruit and acidity. The intensity of the lemony and floral freshness of the Fins Bois wines with their lees is enhanced after being distilled exclusively in 2,500-litre stills.
The Fins Bois Cognac has aromas of spring herbs, fruits and flowers, wild honey, spice and precious wood. Aromas of grape, blackcurrant and redcurrant mingle together, followed by the emergence of caramel, honey and a few woody notes, with just a hint of caramelised pear.
