Cartier boosts China domestic airport presence with Chongqing boutique opening

The lure of luxury: Cartier dazzles with this artful contrast of softness and passion.

CHINA. Cartier has opened a 190sq m boutique in Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport Terminal 3’s domestic travel area.

The boutique, centrally located in T3’s luxury retail zone, showcases the Maison’s wide array of products in a opulently designed space. The store extends the luxury brand’s footprint in Southwest China and boosts Cartier’s already strong travel retail presence in a key market.

Chongqing, a Tier 1 city, ranked among the country’s top five cities in GDP terms last year. It is proving one of the leading domestic travel destinations in the post-pandemic era, according to the Chongqing Municipal Development Committee of Culture and Tourism.

Cartier Global Travel Retail Director Virginie Martignac said, “Chongqing is an indispensable part of Cartier’s travel retail strategy in China.

“The new boutique at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport strengthens our strategic presence in this important domestic travel hub, allowing us to provide an elevated airport shopping experience to Chinese travellers and further enrich our travel retail footprint in the Chinese market.

“We look forward to sharing Cartier’s interpretation of the mountainous city, and the Maison’s iconic creations and exceptional hospitality with travellers in the upcoming years.”

The store’s design, notable for the house’s vibrant red and gold palette, combines simplicity and elegance, creating what the brand owner described as an artful contrast of softness and passion.

Among the prominent displays is a bespoke artwork featuring Cartier’s famed panther fresco set amid Chongqing’s unique architectural landscape.

The fluted interior patterns are an aesthetic illustration of the city’s dynamism, while the circular ceiling design with a golden patina completes the look.

The boutique highlights the brand’s signature pieces, including a range of jewellery, timepieces and accessories in the women’s area. These collections are showcased amid a champagne colour palette, complementing the contemporary chandeliers overhead.

The men’s area focuses on natural elements, with a feature wall adorned with bronze-toned foliage designed to evoke a sense of tranquility and freshness, Cartier noted.

In the bridal area, a golden mesh panel showcases overlapping mountain ranges, reflecting the city’s natural wonders. ✈
