CNSC opens relocated Shanghai downtown duty-free store with promotional fanfare

CHINA. Leading travel retailer China National Service Corporation (CNSC) opened its relocated Shanghai downtown duty-free store on 27 December.

Sinopharm-owned CNSC said the Shanghai downtown store opening reflects the national policy of improving downtown duty free shopping, implemented in October 2024, and serves to expand the options for duty-free retailing in Shanghai.

Located on Jiangning Road in downtown Shanghai’s bustling Jing’an District, the store blends Old Shanghai-inspired architecture with modern aesthetics, creating a space that mixes local character with international appeal, CNSC said, adding that its opening day drew steady traffic.

The store combines duty-free and duty-paid shopping, offering imported and domestic products, with an emphasis on the health and wellness category.

Popular categories including skincare, fragrances & cosmetics, liquor and luggage. Apart from leading international labels, consumers can also find homegrown brands such as Moutai and Wuliangye, as well as a ‘Shanghai Gifts’ section featuring time-honoured local brands and speciality products.

Famed local names such as Moutai complement a strong international brand range at the new location

To celebrate the opening, the store has rolled out a series of promotions including discounts with up to -90% off, complimentary gifts upon entry, and free beauty products with purchases.

Passengers with a passport and a cruise ticket departing from Wusong Port within 60 days can claim a special gift pack. Returning customers with past purchase records will also receive thank-you gifts during the first week.

“The reopening marks our progress in business expansion and innovation as we continue to explore more ‘downtown+’ retail formats,” CNSC said in a statement. “By connecting with nearby commercial areas, cruise tourism and citywide shopping campaigns, the store aims to help enhance the local retail landscape and attract more consumers.”
