‘Connecting past, present and future’ – Rémy Martin celebrates historic 300th anniversary with landmark travel retail launch

Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail has unveiled the 300th Rémy Martin Anniversary Coupe as a key element of the famed Cognac house’s tricentenary (1724-2024).

The 300th Rémy Martin Anniversary Coupe made its debut in global travel retail at a series of exclusive dinners in Hong Kong and Singapore over recent evenings, hosted by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau (look out for our exclusive interview with him coming soon).

Rémy Cointreau described the release of the 300th Rémy Martin Anniversary Coupe as “the next exquisite milestone… testament to the timeless art of Cognac perfection”.

“For 300 years, the House of Rémy Martin has shared its knowledge and expertise from one generation to the next,” said Rémy Cointreau Group Chairwoman Marie-Amélie de Leusse.

“Today, this extends beyond the legacy of the family, and we work as a team with all stakeholders of Rémy Martin to reach sustainable excellence together. We have all inherited a responsibility to protect our soils for the future generations.

“By partnering with winegrowers from Grande and Petite Champagne and by mentoring new talents all over the world, we strive to perpetuate this family legacy for another 300 years.”

Rémy Martin called the 300th Anniversary Coupe “a radiant symbol of three centuries of transmission”, saying it had been created as a tribute to the heritage of the House and “an invitation to dream forward”.

The special release has been created by Loiseau from the Rémy Martin ‘Réserve Perpétuelle’. This precious collection of exceptional eaux-de-vie, exclusively from the Grande Champagne terroir, is saved and passed forward by generations of Cellar Masters.

Grande Champagne, located in the centre of the Cognac region, is known for the exceptional aromatic quality and ageing potential of its eaux-de-vie {main story continues after the sidebar below}.

A never-ending process

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report yesterday just before the launch, Loiseau described the Anniversary Coupe as “a kind of living memory in liquid form”.

He added: “It’s an important milestone for the house itself, for all the employees and for all those who have been part of the history of the House. It’s really meaningful being the Cellar Master at this period of time for such an incredible House.

“For me the creation of this 300th Anniversary Coupe is really the symbol of the transmission between the Cellar Masters,” Loiseau commented.

“This is only the fourth time that we have released an Anniversary Coupe. The first was 50 years ago in 1974, done by André Giraud. Then 25 years later, it was the 275th Anniversary Coupe by Georges Clot. Pierrette Trichet did the 290 Anniversary ten years ago just before retiring. She left the 290th Anniversary Coupe for me to nourish and create the 300 Anniversary Coupe.

Baptiste Loiseau with his predecessor and mentor Pierrette Trichet, the first woman Cellar Master in a major Cognac house. When Loiseau became Cellar Master in 2014, he was, at 34, the youngest in the company’s history.

“So in fact, it’s a never-ending process. On which finally, the Cellar Master at that [particular] time has to go back to the legacy that has been left by the previous Cellar Master. But he or she can also give a nice personal touch in terms of the vision he or she has for the future of the house.”

For the 300th Anniversary Coupe, Loiseau has drawn on the previous Coupe honouring the House’s 290th anniversary – itself nourished by the eaux-de-vie from the 275th Coupe. He then enriched this collective work with his own selection of harmonious, elegant eaux-de-vie entirely from Grande Champagne.

His creation, said Rémy Martin, forges an invisible link between past and present; between generations of talent always dreaming forward.

“The perpetual reserve is as much a process as a legacy. When a new blend is created, part of it is set aside for future cellar masters,” said Loiseau.

“In turn, they will use it for the next Anniversary Coupe. To create the 300th Anniversary Coupe, I have come to enrich this blend with the treasures of our cellars and Grande Champagne terroir, which will be the legacy I leave to the next generation.

“By reserving some eaux-de-vie from this precious Coupe 300th Anniversary, the story will continue for future generations.”

The glass carafe, inspired by the shape of the 250th Anniversary Coupe created in 1974, is enhanced with embossed lines. This symbolises the forward motion of Rémy Martin Centaur’s javelin, the emblem of the House since 1870.

The carafe is presented in a bespoke wooden case containing a special note from the Cellar Master and a unique QR code to access exclusive digital content on www.RemyMartin.com.

During the Hong Kong and Singapore events VIP guests were take on what Rémy Martin described as a multi-sensory journey through time, terroir and transmission, before being invited to experience the exceptional qualities of the Cognac.

The launch is accompanied by the Rémy Martin Dream Forward Expedition, a suite of activations within global travel retail set to take place throughout 2024.

The opulent anniversary experience, available in select key airport locations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Paris, London and Frankfurt, will ensure an exceptional and tailored experience at every touchpoint of the travelling client’s journey, Rémy Cointreau said.

Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail CEO Fida Bou Chabke commented: “As we celebrate Rémy Martin’s remarkable 300-year journey, we honour a commitment that transcends time – a dedication to craftsmanship, tradition and innovation. From the origins of Rémy Martin to the release of the 300th Anniversary Coupe, each milestone reflects our pursuit of excellence.

“We are thrilled to share this with travellers through the Rémy Martin Dream Forward Expedition, inviting them to join us in savouring the essence of Rémy Martin and to dream forward with us.” ✈
