Cooley Distillery returns to Cannes with new expressions

IRELAND. Cooley Distillery is returning to the TFWA World Exhibition this year (Bord Bia stand: Mediterranean Village N17) with a number of new additions and range extensions.

Its core brands – Kilbeggan, Greenore, Tyrconnell and Connemara – are now being distributed through retail partners Nuance, Aelia, Dublin Airport Authority, Aer Rianta International and World Duty Free. They can also be found onboard Brittany Ferries, Irish Ferries, Viking Line, Tallink and in Canadian border shops.

This year has seen a number of high profile brand activities in-store including a St Patrick’s Day tasting programme across London City Airport, Glasgow, Prestwick and Luton airports; participation in World Duty Free’s “˜Malt of the Month Campaign’ for Connemara peated single malt and Nuance’s Malt Festival; and the launch of a fully branded Cooley area at Belfast International this month in association with Aelia.

Cooley Distillery’s Stephen Teeling said: “We are delighted with the growth of Cooley brands in travel retail. It has been a tough economic year but, despite declining passenger numbers, we have gained market share with strong promotion and product innovation.

“As a result we have achieved several new listings in 2010 including Charles de Gaulle Paris and in Ruzyne Prague with Aelia; Tallink for Tyrconnell, Connemara and Kilbeggan; and a full listing for our four core brands with the Canadian shops. We’ve also received a listing of our newly rebranded Kilbeggan 70cl in World Duty Free estate, which we are promoting in Cannes.”

From what is said to be the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world, Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey has been given a new label and gift tube. Also new in Cannes will be 18yo expressions for Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey & Greenore Single Grain, which will replace its current 15yo offerings.

Finally, Cooley’s most celebrated whiskey – Connemara – is joined by a new small batch heavier peat version called Turf Mor which will be available to the UK, Benelux, Germany and Ireland.
