Kering Eyewear has hosted its Sustainability Day on 5 September in Padua which was attended by its Italian key supply chain partners, who learnt more about the company’s sustainability mission.
The discussion was centred around the three key pillars to which Kering’s sustainability strategy is rooted: Care (for the planet), Collaborate (for people) and Create (for sustainable innovation). This approach is aimed at “crafting tomorrow’s luxury”, the company noted.
The event saw the participation of major industry players that have been key to the success of the company’s business model and growth since it was founded in 2014.
Among the highlights of the programme was a workshop led by sustainability and innovation business advisor Anna Zandanel, who focused on the circular economy in the eyewear industry.
The event included a cultural visit to the Geography Museum of the University of Padua as well as specific highlights on climate change and how it affects the geography of the planet.
Kering Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of Institutional Affairs Marie-Claire Daveu joined the discussions to outline the messages related to the group’s sustainability strategy and the importance of everyone’s support to this initiative.
During the event, the group also took the opportunity to present the sustainability goals it has achieved so far and what it seeks to accomplish in the near future based on Kering’s Sustainability Strategy.
Kering also underlined how it is strengthening its network synergies and relations, and how it is continuing to raise awareness on responsibility through active involvement.
Since it had revealed its Environmental Profit & Loss Report and the ambitious Sustainable Luxury 2017-2025 roadmap, it has constantly made efforts to improve its organisation, Kering noted. The company said these improvements were led by its efforts such as reducing consumption, empowering people and fostering innovation through effective solutions and resolutions at every level of its supply chain.
The company’s sustainability drive will be developed under the platform Kering Eyewear for a Better Tomorrow, underlining its commitment to “deliver highly qualitative products with proven responsibility, durability and environmental credentials”.
As it continues on its path to achieving its sustainability goals set for 2025, Kering is seeing new priorities and challenges ahead. It underscored its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by -40% by 2035 on a 2021 baseline, covering all the scopes of the greenhouse gas protocol.
To help achieve these goals, Kering Eyewear said it is providing its full support to the group’s mission through what it calls integrated and multidimensional approach, to which the three pillars of Kering’s sustainability strategy are closely intertwined.
To help strengthen their alliance, Kering Eyewear noted that it must be based on mutual trust and the strict observance of the best practices concerning issues such as transparency, social compliance, environmental protection, animal welfare and chemical use.
The company said it abides by the Kering standards – the group’s guide to help redesign each and every aspect of the business from selection and sourcing of raw materials to manufacturing processes, packaging and visuals, logistics, product’s end-of-life, innovation, and chemical management.
Kering Eyewear President and CEO Roberto Vedovotto said: “We strongly believe in our future, in our people and in our ideas and intuitions to lay the foundation of uniqueness and quality that we promise to our customers across the globe.
“At Kering Eyewear, our mission towards environmental and social responsibility is an imperative and an exciting opportunity to produce advanced innovations and meaningful transformations. Through our continued actions, even if the targets ahead represent a monumental task, we are ready to face the challenge pursuing the goal of a better tomorrow”.
