Don Mueang opening boosts Airports of Thailand commercial earnings

THAILAND. Airports of Thailand posted a +28.4% year-on-year rise in non-aeronautical revenues to THB3,518.93 million (US$118 million) for the first quarter ended 31 December 2012.

The strong showing was driven by increased concession revenues from all Airports of Thailand airports, especially Bangkok’s Don Mueang International which reopened in October 2012 for low cost carriers, as well as point-to-point domestic and international flights.

Don Mueang’s non-aeronautical revenues increased to THB274.58 million (US$9.2 million) compared to just THB7.97 million (US$267,395) the previous year.

The total combined aircraft and passenger movements of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airport for the quarter increased by +17.72% and +32.04% respectively year-on-year.

Aeronautical revenues rose +24.81% to THB5,085.54 million (US$171 million), partly resulting from Air Asia group’s move to Don Mueang on 1 October. As a result, Bangkok’s main airport, Suvarnabhumi, has the capability to accommodate more passengers.
