The 44.2ft chocolate Burj Khalifa will be on display at Dubai International for two weeks |
UAE. The world’s tallest chocolate structure, modelled on the Burj Khalifa, is being displayed at Concourse A in Terminal 3 of Dubai International for two weeks.
The 44.2ft (13.5m) tall sculpture, made using 4,200kg of Belgian chocolate, was unveiled as part of the 43rd UAE National Day celebrations at Dubai Airports.
It was created by master chocolatier Andrew Farrugia and took 1,050 hours to complete.
“Dubai is known all over the world for superlatives – the city is home to some of the world’s tallest buildings apart from Burj Khalifa; one of the world’s top two busiest international airports, one of the world’s largest seaports, largest shopping malls and a number of other world firsts. We thought it was a great idea to celebrate the National Day with a record breaking feat that travellers passing through Dubai International would be able to appreciate,” said Dubai Airports Vice President of Communications & Business Development Anita Mehra.
A Maltese artist specialising in food art, Farrugia has been working in the field of pastry and baking for 32 years. He has participated in international culinary competitions in London, Malta and Egypt, winning top honours in fat and chocolate sculptures.
Last year he set a Guinness World Record in Brussels for the longest chocolate sculpture, a 34m long steam train made entirely from chocolate.
