UK. Edinburgh Airport is celebrating the launch of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by bringing in a number of acts and performers into the terminal to entertain travellers.
The annual arts festival takes place every August for three weeks in Scotland’s capital city, running from 1 to 25 August this year.
Passengers can expect to be immersed in the festival atmosphere before they even leave the airport and head into town, beginning 1 August with German comedy duo Jan und Friedrich.
The initiative aims to offer passengers a taste of what to expect in Edinburgh throughout the month, the airport said.
Other terminal performances lined up for the next few weeks include theatre with Starchild: The Little Prince Reborn direct from Shanghai and comedy from BattleActs, an award-winning improvised comedy team.
In addition, for the first time ever, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society has installed a ticket collection point in the airport’s arrivals hall – meaning passengers can collect their tickets from the minute they touch down in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Airport Chief Executive Gordon Dewar commented: “This is an amazing time of year where our city truly comes alive. We work closely with city partners to bring some of the buzz and atmosphere out to the airport and we’ve got a great selection of Fringe performers lined up to entertain our passengers over the next few weeks.
“The fact that we now have a dedicated ticket collection point in the terminal is a real bonus and means visitors can print their tickets here, saving valuable time to explore the city. I’ve already used the machine to get my tickets.
“We’re getting into the spirit of things and want to make sure all visitors have a great airport experience and a fantastic welcome to Edinburgh,” he added.

We have been getting ready for Fringe 2014 for the past year and it feels fantastic to launch what will definitely be an unforgettable month of arts and culture.
