CHINA. Lifestyle brand Porsche Design, distributed by Rodenstock, has been continuing its 50th anniversary celebrations by running a pop-up at Haikou Mova Mall in partnership with China Duty Free Group (CDFG).
The pop-up, which ends today, offers the limited-edition Porsche Design 50Y Collection and highlights the brand’s heritage, craftsmanship and high-quality materials.
It features a striking backlit wall, which makes it easy for shoppers to explore different models.
Porsche Design Brand Ambassador, American actor Patrick Dempsey, features prominently at the pop-up which has a dramatic black and white motif.
The Porsche Design animation is the latest opening in a long-standing partnership between the brand and CDFG.
Rodenstock Global Travel Retail and International Key Accounts Eyewear Director Lucas Gestin commented: “This pop-up is a very exciting addition to our ongoing collaboration with our valued partners at China Duty Free Group. Over the past two years, our combined working relationship has demonstrated the value of what true partnership can bring for all stakeholders in the travel retail sector and we are delighted to continue that.
“It is also the perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Porsche Design brand at a high-profile and key location in the important Hainan market. The limited edition 50Y Porsche Design Collection showcases the very best of the brand, from its incredible heritage to its cutting-edge design and materials.”
As reported, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche created the P‘8478 sunglasses – the world’s first to feature an interchangeable lens mechanism – in 1978. In 2020, Porsche Design revealed the refreshed P‘8928 with a squared Aviator look using the same lens mechanism but with an edgier design.
In Porsche Design’s 50Y Capsule Collection, the two sunglasses have been updated to feature matt black frames, platinum-coloured titanium and grey polarisation lenses with olive-coloured interchangeable lenses. Each style is limited to 1,972 pieces.
Both models are designed with flat lenses to offer a modern, oversized look and presented in a box with matching strap. The 50Y Capsule styles are available in selected retail outlets, as well as online at http://www.porsche-design.com, with a RRP of €590 (US$590).
