UK. Travel insurance specialist ERV UK, in partnership with Eye Airports, has launched a last-minute insurance product for mobiles offering passengers the chance to purchase travel insurance up to boarding time.
ERV Go was launched at London Gatwick Airport in December 2014. It is being rolled out throughout the UK with promotions at Gatwick, Belfast, Newcastle, East Midlands, Stansted, Bournemouth and Southampton airports.
ERV Go aims to reduce the cost of purchasing insurance by removing some of the cancellation period (to 14 days) not required by those passengers looking to purchase at the last minute. This allows travellers to purchase just before departure without paying for cover that is not required, due to the reduced chance of the trip being cancelled, ERV UK explained.
According to statistics, nearly 20% of British holidaymakers travel without insurance while nearly 80% admit to not having the means to pay the cost of a hospital bill abroad for themselves or their loved ones.

Offering travellers a last-minute travel insurance solution, ERV Go is being promoted in airports throughout the UK using Eye Airports’ latest digital advertising technology |
Eye Airports Business Development Director Tim Hufford said: “This collaboration offers great synergy between “˜out-of-home’ and mobile to support the campaign’s objectives. Benefiting from the unique advertising environment and the opportunity to engage passengers immediately before boarding, ERV is able to capitalise on reaching customers when no other environment can.”
ERV UK E-Commerce Manager Steve Dodd added: “From the initial concept it was clear that ERV Go demonstrated our innovation, not limited to just product but also through distribution and point of sale. Our aim is to protect our customers; therefore providing the ability to purchase a travel insurance product, via a mobile device, at the very last minute, strongly supports our ethos.”
Eye Airports said it uses the latest technology in digital advertising boards to offer programmable advertising, with the addition of advanced mobile device tools such as QR, Near Field Communication (NFC), text (SMS) and Wi-Fi technology. “This technology will allow ERV to reach customers not available through traditional advertising methods,” the company stated.
According to ERV, the new mobile quote engine was developed by Firemelon to integrate with their Magenta back office systems, enabling ERV and Firemelon to work together on fine tuning the best possible customer journey and user experience regardless of device.
