Etienne Aigner celebrates summer on the Milan catwalk

GERMANY. A journey through southeast Asia in the 1920s and Romy Schneider in the 1970s are the inspirations for Etienne Aigner’s fashion and leather Summer 2011 collections, which were showcased during Milan Fashion Week recently (see Aigner’s catwalk video below).

The fashion collection “defines an elegant woman with luxurious and international taste, who is strong and at the same time feminine”, the firm said.

The shapes play with dimensions; outerwear with almost oversized shoulders, full skirts, trousers whose length can be altered so that they can become shorts, and feminine bell-shaped sleeves with an oriental cut. Details include military elements such as pockets with patches and shoulder straps.

The colours are described as neutral and elegant, such as ivory, sand and military green. Black is used as well as intense warm and floral shades such as mustard, ebony, rose, orange, amethyst and chianti, the latter a long-time house favourite.

The materials are light and precious such as crepe de chine, dubbed by the brand a textile “must” for 2011. It has been used for both day and evening wear and is accompanied by silk satin, twill in cotton and jacquards with abstract animal optics.

As an accessory the German firm has used the sash, a summer detail. Worn around the waist replacing the belt it is designed to break up the colours and sober lines of the outfits, giving an original touch with an oriental flavour.

Vintage and elegant designs for bags and accessories

The bags and accessories reflect the traditional side of the brand: vintage and elegant designs, chic and luxurious materials such as canvas and high quality leather in classic colours including cherry and sand.

Bags are made from real ostrich in red, orange and yellow, others in hand-painted Italian leather in olive, chianti and brown.

The most summery models have used an exciting mix of materials and colours; sandy canvas with chianti and orange trimmings in real ostrich or military green canvas with yellow trimmings.

A modern pouch bag with the Aigner logo completes the collection, available in a soft-washed leather with a croco print and pale olive shades.
