Ever Rich launches Kininvie 17yo as global travel retail exclusive

Kininvie 17yo is now available as a travel retail exclusive at Ever Rich Duty Free

William Grant & Sons has teamed up with Ever Rich Duty Free to launch the Kininvie 17yo Batch No.1 as a global travel retail exclusive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

Located in Dufftown, the heart of Speyside in north eastern Scotland, the Kininvie Distillery was formally opened on 4 July 1990 by Janet Sheed Roberts, granddaughter of William Grant.

The whisky was made available for the first time as a 23yo expression in the Taiwan domestic market last year. The limited release of only 7,000 bottles from 1990 – the first year of distillation – “created waves and disappeared off the shelves almost instantly”, according to William Grant & Sons Head of Marketing for Global Travel Retail Ian Taylor.

The new 17yo, a 35cl bottle presented in a distinctive gift box, is said to have a classic Speyside character with a rich, fruity floral aroma and abv of 42.6%. Each bottle highlights the year of distillation, batch number and is individually numbered.

According to William Grant & Sons, 80% of this whisky is matured in American oak barrels with the remaining 20% resting in the finest Sherry Casks for 17 years.

“Kininvie is a truly remarkable whisky, and a great William Grant’s story. Only a family owned Scotch company could open a distillery and choose not to release any whisky for 23 years. A lot of people in the know have been asking us to release Kininvie for decades, but the family was not to be rushed,” Taylor explained.

“In travel retail we wanted to be able to offer international travellers something really special – a highly desirable gift in a delicate box containing some of the most elegant and exclusive single malt whisky in the world. With the release of the first batch of Kininvie 17yo we have been able to do this, and I am delighted that we were able to partner with Ever Rich for the global premiere to continue Kininvie’s relationship with the malt lovers of Taiwan,” he added.
