CHINA. In big breaking news, the Sanya authorities have lifted temporary static management restrictions across the whole region from noon today, Hainan time.
The news has just been revealed by New Hainan, part of The Moodie Davitt Report’s strategic partner in Hainan province, Hainan Hinews Media Co.
The decision comes after a second consecutive day of zero new COVID-19 infections and asymptomatic cases.
Downtown travel retailers in Sanya (China Duty Free Group, Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex and CNSC) are now preparing to reopen after being closed since early August.
“Our Sanya store opens tomorrow,” a senior HTDF spokesperson told The Moodie Davitt Report early this afternoon Sanya time.
“Everyone in Sanya is celebrating,” a CNSC spokeswoman told us. “We have applied to reopen tomorrow.”
CDFG confirmed that its Haitang Bay complex is yet to open. However that will be a matter of days at most, we understand reliably.
China Duty Free Group (CDFG) has resumed businesses at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, Chinese financial title Securities Times reported today.
As previously reported, CDF Haikou Meilan International Airport and Haikou Mova Mall stores are trading as are the GDF Plaza and Shenzhen Duty-Free Group/DFS stores. They had to close on several occasions during August due to the Sanya-centred crisis.
The crisis has devastated the island’s tourism and travel retail sectors and the reopenings will hopefully allow for a solid Golden Week holiday period.
New Hainan reported that a “gradual and orderly restoration” of normal production, services and day to day life will now follow.
Shopping malls are included in the list of businesses that can reopen across the Sanya region, along with supermarkets, barber shops, restaurants (not dine-in) and other enterprises.
