CHINA. Global Premium Duty Free (GDF) Plaza is celebrating the launch of various promotional online and in-store activities during Haduring, the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival holidays that took place this week (15-17 September).
Experiences included events, newly released hi-tech products and themed collaborations with brands.
On Sunday (15 September) Haikou hosted a stop in US rapper Kanye West’s world tour, with GDF Plaza marking the occasion with a series of exclusive surprise activities. Concertgoers could claim CNY1,000 (US$141) in duty-free vouchers, as well as Mid-Autumn-themed gifts and lucky draws. In-store check-in gifts included luxury fragrance and beauty products as well as tea vouchers.
New product releases from Huawei and Apple are set to spark a ‘tech shopping wave’ in the coming days, the retailer said, as GDF Plaza prepares to unveil Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone and Apple’s iPhone 16 series tomorrow (20 September) along with exclusive benefits.
GDF Plaza joined forces with La Prairie and Moët Hennessy during the festival to launch collaborative activities. Customers could enjoy La Prairie handcare services and taste Moët Hennessy signature drinks, while visitors with children could access a themed play area.
The retailer’s voucher releases and the ‘use your air ticket as cash’ campaign continue to run, as consumers using the UnionPay Cloud QuickPass app and Alipay’s ‘tap to pay’ function access multiple discounts through streamlined purchase options.
A GDF Plaza spokesperson commented: “Offshore duty-free shopping has become a key driver in Hainan’s tourism recovery. From brand-new product launches to multiple discount offers, this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival marketing campaign has paved the way for the upcoming National Day Golden Week to boost the market and spends.” 🏝️
