CHINA. Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free (HTDF) in Sanya has launched its ‘High Five — The Fifth Anniversary Celebration’ campaign, in time for the New Year holiday travel season.
From 30 December to 18 January, HTDF will celebrate five years of duty-free and luxury travel retailing with its biggest promotional event of the year. As reported, the store opened for business on 30 December 2020 and in the intervening years has grown to be one of the island’s best-performing duty-free locations.
HTDF said the extensive promotion reflects the vitality of Hainan’s offshore duty-free sector. It also coincides with the arrival of a record number of visitors to the province from China and abroad, following the recent island-wide customs closure on 18 December – a critical moment in the creation of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Special offers, live performances, bonus points and lucky draws are being combined to create what HTDF pledged will be an “unprecedented level of excitement”.

Customers can win an array of premium prizes, including 50,000 bonus points redeemable for purchases, smartphones and smart watches, outdoor accessories, gold and more. Flash sales and limited-time promotions are also included to add further festive shopping incentives.

A diverse range of activities will also take place during the campaign period, including dance performances by robots and sci-fi-inspired acts.

HTDF has partnered with the Honor of Kings Challenger Cup, a major esports tournament, allowing event spectators to redeem gifts, unlock limited-edition merchandise and enjoy special promotions.
Cosplayers portraying game characters will appear throughout the mall, blending gaming culture with duty-free shopping. Adding to the festivities, visitors attending the 9 January concert by pop star Angela Zhang will qualify for exclusive shopping benefits.
A 3.5-meter-tall figurine inspired by the hugely popular singer has debuted at the shopping mall entrance and has already become a popular spot for visitors to take photos and share them on social media.

HTDF has also embraced the anniversary celebrations as an opportunity to introduce new luxury and lifestyle brands while upgrading the overall customer experience.
Recently opened boutiques include SUQQU (the world’s first duty-free boutique for the fast-growing Japanese cosmetics brand), Hechter and Under Armour alongside newly expanded stores for popular athleisure brands such as Descente, Kolon and Fila.

Leading local fashion brands, including Biemlofen (premium golf apparel) and Hazzys, will also make their debut, boosted by new tax refund policies applicable to domestic apparel.

Premium beauty boutiques — including Helena Rubinstein, La Mer and La Prairie — are offering complimentary hand and facial treatments, “turning shopping into a pampering experience”, HTDF said.
Five years after its launch in Sanya, Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free said it continues to position itself as an innovative player in Hainan’s travel retail landscape, focused on discovery and operational excellence.
“Through creative marketing, strategic collaborations, and immersive experiences, HTDF is helping shape a new duty-free consumption model that blends shopping with travel, entertainment and lifestyle,” the company commented. 🏝️
