HONG KONG, CHINA. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has announced that the new passenger departure facilities at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 will begin operations on 27 May.
AAHK Chairman Fred Lam revealed the opening dates during a Chinese New Year celebration at the airport on 17 February, alongside Transport and Logistics Secretary Mable Chan.

The passenger facilities at the expanded terminal will be rolled out in phases, enabling the airport to respond effectively to passenger demand and projected traffic growth during the busy summer travel season.
The revamped T2 will offer seamless connectivity to the Airport Express and Terminal 1, alongside advanced smart check-in systems – all within what is described as a trendy, vibrant space designed for today’s leisure travellers.
The terminal will host around 15 airlines, mostly operating short-haul and regional routes, which will progressively relocate to T2.

The airport highlighted its close cooperation with government departments, airlines, passenger-handling agents and other stakeholders ahead of the departure facilities opening.
The preparations included an extensive programme of familiarisation activities, training sessions, drills and exercises, already in progress.
The upcoming launch builds on the 23 September 2025 opening of the Coach Hall in Terminal 2, which marked the first phase of the expanded terminal.
The Coach Hall features 41 parking bays for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, crew and resident coaches, as well as ticketing counters for cross-boundary transport connecting with more than 110 destinations in the Greater Bay Area. ✈
