Images of the Day: Discovering Auckland Airport’s expansive commercial offer (1)

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

NEW ZEALAND. Today’s images come from Auckland Airport, New Zealand’s premier international and domestic gateway, writes Martin Moodie.

I snapped them on my iPhone yesterday (15 September) while flying out to Hong Kong International Airport. My first selection* is dedicated to Aelia Duty Free’s expansive (make that humongous) walk-through store.

As regular readers will recall, the Lagardère Travel Retail-owned company took over solus status on 1 June 2023, having (as LagardèreAWPL) previously shared departures and arrivals shopping space with Aer Rianta International (ARI).

The move to a more logical mono-retailer model meant that Aelia Duty Free inherited ARI’s considerable shopping space, creating the vast and attractive retail zone Kiwis and foreign visitors now encounter.

*Look out for more images from the airport’s specialist retail and food & beverage offer.
