Images of the Day: Ospree Duty Free makes magic in Mumbai

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

INDIA. Today’s image selection comes from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, gateway to Mumbai, the capital of the state of Maharashtra, writes Martin Moodie.

Ospree Duty Free, the airport’s anchor retailer, played host to this week’s APTRA India conference, bringing a magnificent sense of Indian hospitality and culture to an excellent, enjoyable and enlightening event.

As international delegates bade farewell to Mumbai through the airport, Ospree Duty Free kept its warm brand of hospitality flowing via special delegate offers and gifts and thank you digital messages.

I was privileged to be invited on dual tours before my evening flight to Hong Kong via Colombo.

One was of the wonderful Adani Lounges and some compelling new food & beverage offers, all from the Adani/Travel Food Services joint venture (look out for my report, coming soon)

I am pictured with the superb team from the Adani/TFS  lounge and F&B partnership, including the prodigiously talented Chef Aniruddha (‘Ani’, sixth from right). I will bring you a story on the team’s latest activities in coming days.

The other was focused on Ospree Duty Free’s impressively ranged, merchandised and expansive retail offer.

You can read my favourable impressions of the arrivals duty-free offer in The Moodie Blog. Here are my selected highlights from departures .

My tour guide supreme was Ospree Assistant General Manager Vivek Singh (right), expertly assisted by Senior Retail Manager Kayomarz Magra (left)

Now this is what you call excellent and pro-active retailing. Ospree Duty Free notes the recent elimination of arrivals duty-free shopping in Thailand (exclusively revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report) and creates a departures opportunity in its place.

Ospree Duty Free is justifiably proud of its exclusive wine library, Gran Cru Club. The concept, launched last November, offers wine lovers a premium collection of more than 120 labels with more to come.
Great houses and great vintages are on show at Gran Cru Club, including blue-chip Bordeaux labels such as Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2014, Château Lynch-Bages 2014 and Château Montrose 2018 plus Opus One 2018 (above) from California
The price range of the wines starts at IR20,000 (US$236), extending up to IR49,000 (US$578), catering to diverse tastes and preferences
Johnnie Walker is a perennial favourite in India and the brand’s multiple expressions and pricepoints are beautifully represented within this shop-in-shop

Keep Walking: The famed Johnnie Walker mantra is about helping humanity more forward to a world where everyone is accepted, welcomed and celebrated. Just like the airport and travel retail universe.

While liquor dominates overwhelmingly in arrivals, beauty more than comes into its own in departures. Ospree Duty Free presents an expansive cross-category offer featuring most big international brands.

They say every picture tells a story but this one particularly so. When such an illustrious brand as Chanel prepares to occupy space like this then you simply know Indian travel retail is shining brightly on the beauty sector’s radar.
Chanel is not alone in its thinking. Above and below we see a cluster of brands from The Estée Lauder Companies.
