Incheon celebrates proud ASQ triumph in Porto – 22/04/09

PORTUGAL/INTERNATIONAL. At a ceremony in Porto, Portugal last night Incheon International Airport Corp (IIAC) celebrated its award as Best Airport Worldwide in the annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Survey by Airports Council International (ACI).

IIAC President Chae-Wook Lee accepted the award on behalf of the group to the delight of a 30-strong delegation of Incheon Airport representatives. The awards took place during the gala dinner at the ACI Europe Airport Trading Conference & Exhibition, held in Porto from 20 to 22 April.

For the fourth year in a row the top three performing airports worldwide were in Asia Pacific, with Incheon joined in the top three by Singapore Changi and Hong Kong International.

The top performing airports in other regions were Zürich, Switzerland (Europe), Halifax, Canada (North America), Guayaquil, Ecuador (Latin America & Caribbean), Tel Aviv, Israel (Middle East) and George, South Africa (Africa).

In the five categories based on annual-passenger traffic size, top honours went to Halifax (less than 5 million), Central Japan Nagoya (5-15 million), Taipei (15-25 million), Incheon (25-40 million) and Hong Kong (over 40 million).

The ASQ Survey captures passengers’ perception of the quality of more than 30 aspects of the service that they experience at the airport. Interviewing of travellers covers every day of the week and every month of the year to ensure coverage of all seasons and all peaks and troughs.

In 2008 the rankings were based on the results of over 200,000 questionnaires completed by passengers at 108 airports.

The ceremony was held at a sparkling ACI Europe Trading Conference gala dinner, which took place in Porto’s Palacio de Bolsa.

It followed day one of the ACI Europe Conference, which attracted around 250 delegates from airports and airport concessionaires across the region.

More details and photos from the ACI Europe event will appear soon.
