Interparfums has unveiled MCM x SambyPen, the latest limited-edition release from German luxury fashion house MCM. It is now exclusively available in MCM boutiques. It will become available in Asia Pacific travel retail, particularly in South Korea, Thailand and China, in May.

The fragrance is the result of a collaboration between MCM and emerging Seoul-based artist SambyPen. The 50ml bottle and packaging is a celebration of Berlin’s colourful street art and graffiti scene, reimagined through SambyPen’s colourful, irreverent artistic style.

Following the theme ‘Media Creates Madness’, SambyPen reinterprets MCM’s house codes through whimsical characters in a bold graffiti style. ‘Haru the Wicked Bunny’ was inspired by MCM’s rabbit motif and the German Easter Hare. In the design, Haru exudes a mischievous attitude which symbolises the scent’s characteristics. The fragrance is housed in a playful mini version of the MCM backpack, which is one of its best-selling products.

MCM Global Creative Officer Dirk Schönberger commented, “The shared ethos between MCM and SambyPen resulted in a collaborative project where art, fashion and entertainment blend and the underground converge with luxury.”

“As this is my first fragrance collaboration, it felt quite personal to me,” explained SambyPen. “The scent immediately brought back memories of the many different places I lived in and travelled to around the globe. I wanted to convey the sense of global connectivity and community that we have been missing during the last few years.”

The MCM X SambyPen fragrance opens with raspberry and apricot top notes, followed by white peony, Jasmine Absolute and violet leaf heart notes, with white moss, vanilla, Ambrox Super and sandalwood notes as its base.

“The scent connects the contradictions of luxury and street style, heritage and modernity, individuality, and tribe,” added Firmenich Senior Perfumer Clément Gavarry who created the fragrance.

“The scent was inspired by tribes of fearless free thinkers and sought to design a sustainable blend of classic and modern elements that fuse together to create an attitude of unbridled optimism and powerful connection.”

As reported, MCM Eau de Parfum, which was launched in 2021, was inspired by the spirit of travel. The fragrance takes users on a journey inspired by the ingredients. The floral woody fragrance features raspberry, jasmine, clean woods and Ambrox Super notes.

“We’ve always believed there is an inherent connection between fashion and fragrance, fuelled by the emotional response to each, and love that these two worlds seamlessly intersect in our partnership with SambyPen,” added Interparfums Chief Marketing Officer Baerbel Bureick.

“Scent can so profoundly recall or evoke a sense of place. Working with SambyPen, our shared intention was to transport the wearer, taking each person on an emotional journey of MCM’s bold heritage through the sensorial experience of using the fragrance.”
