UK. JD Sports is to open a 340sq m store airside at London Heathrow Terminal 2 next month, returning to the retail line-up at the airport. The British sports fashion retailer – which opened its previous store when Terminal 5 opened in 2008 – will take over the premises of the former John Lewis store on the upper floor of T2.

The deal – which was brokered with the assistance of retail real estate consultancy Harper Dennis Hobbs – includes the use of a remote stockroom at the airport.
Heathrow Director of Retail and Property Fraser Brown told The Moodie Davitt Report: “We are delighted to welcome back JD Sports – the undisputed King of Trainers. With the biggest shoe store ever in a UK airport, this is a fantastic addition to our offer as passengers will have access to the latest trainers, sportswear and accessories.”

He added: “We want to give our passengers great retailers with a variety of choice across different categories and AthLeisure is an important growing category. This is another positive example that despite a tough trading environment, retailers are investing in airports and Heathrow is evolving in the future of travel retail.”
Harper Dennis Hobbs Executive Director – Travel Retail Simon Black said: “By working with one of the fastest growing retailers globally, Heathrow is introducing one of the most on-trend and accessible categories to their already impressive line-up.”
