Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail (GTR), Jefferson’s Bourbon and Holland America Line have partnered to see Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea Bourbon matured across the cruise operator’s entire fleet.
The partnership introduces Jefferson’s signature ocean-ageing process to Holland America Line’s 11-ship fleet, marking the first time the Ocean Series has partnered with a cruise operator.
The process started in March with one barrel of Jefferson’s Bourbon being loaded onto Holland America Line vessels. By the end of April, all 11 ships in the fleet will carry a dedicated barrel, each embarking on different global itineraries.
During their voyages, the barrels will age at sea for a minimum of six months, exposed to shifting climates, waves, ocean air and the continual motion of the ship.
These environmental factors are integral to the Jefferson’s Ocean maturation process, influencing the whiskey’s flavour profile, depth and finish.
The result of 34 previous Ocean editions aged onboard cargo ships revealed darker, richer and more caramelised bourbons with notable complexity, the brand said.

Travellers will be invited to follow the maturation journey through educational tastings, designed to demonstrate how maritime conditions shape the spirit.
Each barrel is expected to yield approximately 150 to 300 bottles, with the first releases scheduled for 2027. The programme culminates in the return of the aged liquid to each ship, where guests will be able to sample the bourbon produced during their own ship’s journey.
The Jefferson’s Bourbon collaboration expands Holland America Line’s Single Barrel Programme and aligns with the cruise operator’s celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary.
“What an amazing opportunity to have such an entertaining collaborator, Holland America, to document this unique experiment,” commented Jefferson’s Bourbon Founder Trey Zoeller.
“Each voyage and route gives us a clearer view of how the journey shapes the liquid, resulting in 11 very different expressions of Jefferson’s Ocean.
“Each ship will carry 6 Year Old Kentucky Straight bourbon whiskey encased in unique climates, environments and agitations to push the extended maturation in wonderfully different directions.
“What an incredible canvas for ocean ageing, helping us dive deeper into the Jefferson’s Ocean story. I want to thank Holland America for having the foresight and experimental nature to help make this happen.”

Holland America Director of Food and Beverage Revenue and Innovation Drew Foulk commented, “This partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon is another way we’re setting ourselves apart through experiences that are truly unique to sailing with Holland America Line.
“Ageing bourbon aboard our ships and offering it back to guests later reflects our commitment to exclusive beverage programmes that are shaped by the journey itself.”
Pernod Ricard Travel Retail Americas General Manager Greg Ford added, “Travel retail is at its best when it brings exclusive, unforgettable experiences to life for travellers, and this partnership delivers exactly that.
“Holland America Line’s extraordinary itineraries combined with Jefferson’s pioneering approach to ageing create a truly one-of-a-kind story. We’re proud to help deliver this unique expression to guests across the fleet and continue elevating what spirits discovery can look like in the cruise channel.” ✈
