Karelia continues rapid duty free expansion – 08/10/07

Karelia Slims is part of Karelia’s strategy of growing consumer brand awareness around the world

GREECE. Karelia Tobacco Company, Greece’s largest cigarette manufacturer, will return to the TFWA World Exhibition with a showcase of brands such as George Karelias and Sons and Karelia Slims (Stand number: Green Village L71). The company will also welcome visitors onboard its new yacht, The Snapper, in the Harbour Village.

Karelia Slims and George Karelias and Sons are the key strategic drivers for the company’s duty free business. They are also part of Karelia’s strategy of growing consumer brand awareness around the world through the reinforcement of its presence in specific categories.
Karelia’s partnerships with leading duty free operators have garnered positive results for its tobacco brands. In Europe, it has achieved a listing at Glasgow Airport following successful co-operation with World Duty Free for sales of Karelia Slims at London Heathrow and London Gatwick South Airports.

Karelia has also teamed up with Gebr Heinemann at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, Kievrianta at Kiev Airport, and LFP at Lisbon Airport. In Turkey, where it has partnered with several large duty free operators, sales have doubled compared to last year.

Karelia’s brands have also recently enjoyed a stronger presence in Asia. Its partnerships with Sunrise Duty Free at China’s Shanghai and Beijing Airports and with Sky Connection at Hong Kong International Airport have given its brands higher volume exposure.

Karelia’s co-operation with King Power has also helped it achieve listings at Macau Airport and the Hong Kong-China border of Lo Wu.

Karelia brands have also been listed in southeast Asia, including the international airports of Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

In other markets, following Bulgaria’s induction into the European Union, Karelia recently formed a new subsidiary in Sofia: Karelia Bulgaria EOOD. According to the company, its key target is to grow its current 6% market share into double digits and enhance its position in all tobacco categories.
