La Martiniquaise and Qatar Duty Free partner for Cutty Sark 12 Year Old launch

Cutty Sark 12 Year Old builds on the brand’s maritime history

UAE. La Martiniquaise Group has partnered with Qatar Duty Free to exclusively launch the new Cutty Sark 12 Year Old Scotch whisky from June at Dubai International Airport.

As reported, La Martiniquaise Group launched the 12 Year Old expression of its Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky into domestic markets in March. The line pays tribute to eponymous ship’s anchor points and its long maritime history.

Cutty Sark 12 Year Old is matured in oak bourbon and sherry casks and offers notes of dried and tropical fruits, spice, cloves and a hint of sea salt. It is presented in a black bottle with a cork seal which, according to the brand, “reflects the traditions of the Prohibition era when Cutty Sark became notorious”.

Its yellow label features the Cutty Sark ship along with a compass to mark its maritime branding.

La Martiniquaise-Bardinet International Marketing Director Sylvia Bernard said: “We are very excited to enrich the Cutty Sark family. This new reference is a wonderful opportunity to communicate on the heritage, status and quality of the brand while remaining audacious and iconic.

“This is a first step to build the foundations of an enlarged Cutty range to appeal to whisky enthusiasts and recruit the next generation of Scotch consumers.”

Cutty Sark 12 Year Old (40% ABV) was unveiled at last year’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

As reported, La Martiniquaise Group became a corporate partner with Royal Museums Greenwich, where the original Cutty Sark three-mast clipper is based, last year.

Built in Scotland in 1869, the vessel was one of the fastest of its days and participated in the legendary clipper races to bring back tea from China and wool from Australia. Cutty Sark’s name comes from Scottish poet Robert Burns’ famous work Tam O’Shanter (in which a scantily-clad witch called Nannie is dressed only in a ‘cutty sark’).

The ship has featured on the label since the brand’s launch in 1923.

La Martiniquaise-Bardinet acquired Cutty Sarkfrom Edrington in 2018.
