LIQUOR: Rum Jumbie Liqueur makes international gains

US. Ask any Caribbean islander and they will tell you that Jumbie means “spirit”. Rum Jumbie Liqueur, which takes its name from this folkloric expression, made its international debut at the Duty Free Show of the Americas in Orlando last week. Sales manager Thierry Martin told The Moodie Report that the first duty free listings outside the Caribbean had been signed for Mexican airports and hotel outlets. The company recently opened an office in New Orleans and a Miami warehouse. In the islands where it has been on shelf over the past two years including St Maarten/St Martin, St Thomas, St Kitts, Bermuda, Aruba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands Rum Jumbie has been a best seller.

As the story goes, a plantation owner hid his sought-after rum recipe deep inside caves below his property, a recipe for this aged 3 year old to 5 year old rum blended with spices and tropical fruits. Rum Jumbie is ideally drunk on ice with a twist of lime. Sculpted bottles, hand painted by local artists in St Maarten complete the picture.

Price in duty free: US$18.50
