INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the September edition of The Moodie Davitt Magazine, which carries a strong focus on some of travel retail’s most exciting growth markets.

We begin in Türkiye, where we focus on one of the most important projects in ATÜ Duty Free’s 26-year history – its entry into Antalya International Airport.

The travel retailer, a joint venture between TAV Airports and the Gebr. Heinemann/Unifree Duty Free partnership, captured the duty-free contract there in 2024, and is phasing its openings across core duty-free, multi-category concept Luxury Square and acclaimed destination merchandise brand Old Bazaar.

ATÜ Duty Free President and CEO Ersan Arcan reflects on progress in Antalya and considers how the wider business is trending in 2025 to date.

India is among the world’s most talked-about travel markets today, with its outbound tourism representing an intriguing opportunity for travel retail.

The Indian duty-free shopper was profiled during a special session at the Australian Airports Association’s Retail & Commercial Forum on 21-23 July, with Heinemann Oceania Managing Director George Tsoukalas taking an in-depth look at spend among Indian visitors to the company’s Sydney Airport stores.

We present highlights of that session and we overlay this with a round-up of key events, projects and other developments across Indian airport retail and food & beverage.

We maintain our strong recent focus on Saudi Arabia in this issue by reviewing Lagardère Travel Retail’s latest moves to grow its footprint in this target market.

This issue is accompanied by our latest Category Insight supplement, in which we take a close look at the niche beauty sector through the eyes of two leading retailers.

ARI Global Head of Beauty Deirdre Devaney talks about partner selection criteria, balancing powerhouse global names with disruptive newcomers, and the role of storytelling, immersive activations and agile space management in keeping the offer fresh.

Gebr. Heinemann Director Purchasing Perfume & Cosmetics Britta Hoffmann assesses how niche brands can play an even greater role in the assortment.

We also carry the views of brand owners about the future for niche beauty in travel retail.

Please enjoy this September edition with our compliments.
