UK. London Heathrow Airport served almost 83.9 million passengers in 2024, an increase of +5.9% year-on-year and a new annual record.
The figures were buoyed by the busiest December in Heathrow’s history, with 7 million travellers using the airport, up +5.6% on December 2023. On what is normally one of the quietest days for travel, Christmas Day saw a record 160,000 passengers, a +13% increase on the previous high in 2023.
New York, Los Angeles, Dublin and Madrid were among the top Heathrow destinations in 2024 by passenger volume, as the airport maintained its status of most connected airport in the world (based on OAG data).

The airport company is forecasting 84.2 million passengers in 2025.
As reported, Heathrow Airport has announced the largest private sector capital investment in the UK’s transport network, pledging £2.3 billion over the next two years to upgrade the largest London gateway.
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “2024 was an exciting and a record-breaking year at Heathrow. I’m proud of all my colleagues and our partners who worked so hard to deliver great experiences for more passengers than ever before. In 2025, our journey towards better value for our customers will continue by investing in the kind of facilities our passengers and airlines are looking for. We aim to become more innovative to ensure that our airport delivers for the whole of the UK.” ✈
