L’Oréal rebrands Active Cosmetics Division to Dermatological Beauty

The Active Cosmetics Division, rebranding to Dermatological Beauty, comprises the SkinCeuticals, La Roche-Posay, Vichy, CeraVe and Skinbetter Science brands

L’Oréal Groupe is rebranding its Active Cosmetics Division to Dermatological Beauty. The change underlines the division’s link to dermatologists, paediatricians and pharmacists, highlighting the medical efficacy of the brands.

The Active Cosmetics Division comprises the SkinCeuticals, La Roche-Posay, Vichy, CeraVe and Skinbetter Science brands, which the Groupe acquired in late 2022.

Founded in 2016, Skinbetter Science is a dermatological skincare brand that offers active ingredient-rich cleansing, exfoliating, skin peeling and sun protection products. Skinbetter Science is available through dermatologists in the US. The brand recorded sales of US$95 million in 2022.

The dermacosmetics market grew by +13% in 2022. La Roche Posay is outperforming the sector, led by its hero Anthelios UVMune sun care line which has been relaunched with long UV ray filters.

According to L’Oréal Travel Retail Active Cosmetics & Professional Products Divisions General Manager Anne-Laure Lecerf, the dermacosmetics market grew by +13% in 2022. She said: “This growth offers exciting opportunities for L’Oréal Travel Retail which has several brands with a strong foothold in the category, particularly with our SkinCeuticals, Vichy and La Roche Posay brands.

“In terms of dermacosmetics, L’Oréal Groupe is doing four times the market,” Lecerf says. “Both Vichy and La Roche Posay have performed strongly in the last year. La Roche Posay is growing at twice the rate of the dermacosmetics market, which has grown by +13% in 2022. La Roche Posay is growing in all continents and in nearly every country. It brings in a lot of growth to travel retail and is a major traffic generator for our retail partners.”✈
