SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free is donating KW100 million (US$88,000) to help those affected by the devastating forest fire that raged through the country’s Gangwon province last week.
The donation will be used in housing restoration projects so that victims who have lost their homes can return to normal life as soon as possible. It will also be used to support restoration projects that seek to prevent landslides and other secondary accidents.
“We want to express our deepest sympathy and sadness to the victims of the floods caused by the forest fires in Gangwon and hope that their lives will be normalised soon,” Lotte Duty Free said in a statement.
“We will continue to support the tourism industry to revitalise tourism so that local residents are not affected by a second wave of damage.”
Lotte has previously donated to disaster relief projects. In 2016, it donated KW1 billion (US$880,000) to help victims of floods caused by Typhoon Chaba. In the same year, it engaged in a series of social contribution activities to help the local tourism and the local economy in the wake of an earthquake in Gyeongju.
