Luxottica Travel Retail to expand LuxAcademy training programme

This year Luxottica plans to grow its LuxAcademy training programme, which since last year has included a specific travel retail version

Luxottica Travel Retail will expand its LuxAcademy training programme in 2014 to include tailored courses for key accounts, digital e-learning platforms and a wider range of global and brand-specific modules.

In 2013, Luxottica sales staff from 26 of its travel retail partners completed the LuxAcademy sunglasses-specific training courses in 72 locations worldwide.

The maker of Ray-Ban, Oakley and Arnette eyewear launched a travel retail version of LuxAcademy in 2013. LuxAcademy, which has been running for three years, offers sales staff a mixture of classroom and shop-floor training from Luxottica’s Travel Retail team of trainers.

Key areas of the training include global and brands knowledge, buying levers for customers by region, differences between pre-planned and impulse purchases, as well as the most frequently asked questions from customers.

Luxottica International Training Manager for Travel Retail Averis Papastefani said: “Sunglasses is a broad category, spanning luxury brands through to technical lifestyle products, and this puts a huge onus on retailers to ensure their staff have the necessary product knowledge and selling skills to guide the customer.

“LuxAcademy’s tailored approach for the travel retail channel recognises the importance of and challenges involved in staff training and have been incredibly well received by our retail partners. We have put a significant level of investment and resource into this programme and see continued improvement in this area as a key to category growth in the coming years.”
