MAC and McQueen take the runway by storm – 11/10/07

MAC for McQueen adds a touch of theatre to the runway with Egyptian-themed eyes

UK. MAC Cosmetics has partnered with designer Alexander McQueen and leading make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury, to create a limited-edition MAC for McQueen collection. This marks the first time McQueen has partnered with a cosmetics company in this way.

The line will be available in travel retail in Dubai from 23 October, and in selected Asia doors this month, for a limited four-week period.

MAC and Tilbury worked together to create the look for McQueen’s autumn winter 2007 show. The overall effect was bold, with flashes of unexpected colour. A highlight was the classic “cat’s eye” of Egyptian royalty.

The MAC for McQueen collection comprises 16 products, 12 of which were hand blended for the designer’s show by Barber and MAC Cosmetics Director of Makeup and Artistry Terry Barber.

All the products are adorned with the Alexander McQueen logo. “When we embarked on the packaging, I wanted to have the sense that these are really just imprints by Alexander McQueen, fresh, hot off the runway,” explained MAC Cosmetics Senior Vice President/Creative Director James Gager. “They are meant to be direct from the runway and feeling on trend.”

MAC has worked with Alexander McQueen backstage, by providing make-up and artistry support, since 1996. The designer explained: “The make-up for a show plays up certain elements of the clothing, changes the overall feeling, and mood. I work with the key artist, Charlotte in this case, to take the make-up in a certain direction, and discuss my original inspiration for the collection as well as the mood, theme, and focus for the show.

“This time inspiration was derived from Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 film Cleopatra. The Egyptian influence plays up a very feminine sexual strength that was present in my inspiration for the collection,” McQueen concluded.

The products featured include lipstick, lipglass gloss, eye shadow, paint pots, mineralize skinfinish powder and kohl.
