Making scents of New York: Bond No. 9 unveils latest Andy Warhol fragrance – 26/02/08

Union Square is housed in a sculpted glass flacon, displaying Warhol’s iconic flower motifs as its surface design

US. New York-based perfumery Bond No. 9 will officially launch the latest fragrance from its Andy Warhol collectible series – Andy Warhol Union Square – on 15 March.

The complete Union Square portfolio features ten 100ml bottles, each displaying a different “˜Flowers’ print

Union Square will be the second of a projected series of twelve fragrances under an agreement with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The first was Andy Warhol Silver Factory.

The scent, a green floral that’s simultaneously cool and warm, is inspired by Warhol’s original “˜Flowers’ silk screens, which were developed as screenprints in 1970 at his studio on New York’s Union Square.

Developed as a balanced mix of sweet and cool, notes include lily of the valley, green stem, sweet blue freesia, white birch wood, amber and silver-cloud musk accords.

The fragrance is housed in a sculpted glass flacon, displaying Warhol’s iconic flower motifs as its surface design.

Available in 100 ml (US$195) and 50ml (US$135), Andy Warhol Union Square will be available at Bond No. 9’s four New York boutiques, www.bondno9.com, and at Saks Fifth Avenue across the US, Dubai, London, Japan, and Italy.

Serious collectors may purchase the complete Union Square portfolio, which features ten 100ml bottles, each displaying a different “˜Flowers’ print. It will be launched in March at a recommended retail price of US$1,500.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Bond No. 9 will also be offering a bottle of Union Square wrapped with a limited edition Robert Lee Morris Warhol-inspired “˜Flowers’ necklace. A 100ml bottle, along with the 36-inch sterling silver necklace, will retail at a suggested price of US$575. It will be launched in April.

About Bond No. 9 and the Andy Warhol collectible series

New-York based fragrance house Bond No. 9 specialises in creating fragrances that pay homage to New York City and its neighbourhoods. Named after its flagship boutique at 9 Bond Street in NoHo, the company was established in 2003 by Laurice Rahme.
