Meininger Awards honour top names in wine and spirits sector

The Baron Philippe de Rothschild family has been named ‘Wine Family of the Year’ at the 11th Meininger Awards – Excellence in Wine & Spirit, organised annually by German publisher Meininger Verlag.

The company specialises in publications for the wine and drinks sector and announced the awards at the ProWein International Trade Fair in Düsseldorf earlier this month.

During the awards, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988) was described as the “visionary and founder of the fame of his château” and Mouton Cadet as “one of the most successful international wine brands up to the present day”. The Baron Philippe de Rothschild family’s pioneering joint ventures with the Californian Mondavi family (Opus One) and the Chile’s Concha y Toro (Almaviva), as well as with other Bordelaise châteaux and vineyards in other regions of France, were also highlighted.
