USA. Leading airport concessionaire Paradies marked the official opening of The New York Times Bookstore and Goldberg’s Café at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport this week.

This 2,114sq ft space, located in Concourse E, combines Atlanta brand Goldberg’s Café with The New York Times name. To commemorate the opening, local and international dignitaries were in attendance including Ambassador Andrew Young, Bishop Dr. Barbara King, Atlanta City Council Member H. Lamar Willis and A.J. Robinson.

Paradies partnered with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which will commemorate the groundbreaking contributions of Atlantans and Georgians in the struggle for African-American freedom and equality. (The Center is scheduled to open in May 2014.) This was created especially for The New York Times Bookstore space and to create a Sense of Place, and to honour Atlanta’s role in the Civil Rights Movement.

Information for the Center will be provided through brochures and streaming videos; the space will also include a ticket kiosk where travellers will be able to purchase tickets for the Center.

“We are grateful to have cultivated two exceptional partnerships with Atlanta’s own Goldberg’s Deli and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights,” said Gregg Paradies, President and CEO of Atlanta-based Paradies. “It gives us a great source of pride to offer an exquisitely combined retail, food and informative space to ATL and to commemorate Atlanta’s role in the Civil Rights Movement by dedicating a special section of The New York Times Bookstore to the Center.”

“It is an honour to be a part of the concessions programme at the world’s busiest airport and we are proud to deliver local and regionally inspired menu favorites Atlantans have enjoyed for over 40 years,” said Wayne Saxe, Chairman and CEO of Goldberg’s Group of Companies. “Our partnership with The New York Times Bookstore, featuring the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, provides passengers an opportunity to enjoy great food and service in a relaxing and enlightening atmosphere.”

“We are excited about our new partnership with these two tremendous companies, and the valuable opportunity it brings the Center by informing travellers of our emerging presence in downtown Atlanta May of 2014,” said Doug Shipman, CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. “We look forward to helping provide individuals with a unique and educational shopping experience when travelling through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.”
