UK. Pernod Ricard-owned Scotch whisky brand Ballantine’s has launched a fresh look for Ballantine’s Limited, one of its ultra-prestige references.
While Ballantine’s Limited will retain its original blend, the look and feel of the packaging has been enhanced in a bid to drive sales of the ultra-premium and prestige range – Ballantine’s 17, 21, 30 Year Old and Limited – in the Asia Pacific region.
Part of the world’s number two Scotch whisky range, Limited represents the greatest depth and complexity of any Ballantine’s blend, said Pernod Ricard Travel Retail, and therefore its new packaging is designed to reflect the product’s rare and luxurious characteristics.
The presentation box is produced using a combination of wood, leatherette and high quality textured cardboard, with a metal enamel crest. The bottle is made from blue smoked glass with real gold lettering.
In April, eye-catching displays will be installed at Asian airports, including Seoul Incheon and Jeju in South Korea, to showcase the re-launched reference, and to explain the rare malts and grains used in the blend.
Leading ultra-premium whisky in travel retail
“We are thrilled to be re-launching Ballantine’s Limited in travel retail,” said Chivas Brothers Regional Director Robin Johnston. “Such luxurious packaging reinforces the prestigious quality of the product and fits perfectly into duty free. Ballantine’s is currently the number three Scotch and leading ultra-premium whisky in travel retail and therefore the new look can only help to reinforce our leading position.”
Ballantine’s International Brand Director Peter Moore commented: “Ten years ago, Sandy Hyslop [Master Blender] created a non-aged gem in Ballantine’s Limited. It is a real tribute to the traditions of whisky blending – established in the 1800s by George Ballantine – through its elegant signature style that is synonymous with the brand. Today, with its prestigious new look, Ballantine’s Limited perfectly expresses its rare and luxurious attributes in a contemporary way.”

Based on the collective blending expertise of three of only five Master Blenders in the history of Ballantine’s, Ballantine’s Limited combines some of the rarest and most valuable grain and malt whiskies, including those from Glentauchers, Tormore and Miltonduff distilleries.
The malts and grains included in the blend are not widely commercially available and this rare combination of young and old whiskies results in an exceptional blend of rich, fruity flavours and an almost effervescent sparkle, according to the company.
The blend won Gold at the 2009 International Wines and Spirits Competition awards.
About Ballantine’s
Ballantine’s Limited was launched in 2000, aiming to be a pioneer of the unaged superior blends category.
Ballantine’s boasts the most comprehensive branded range of the best quality blended Scotch whiskies – Finest, 12, 17, 21, 30yo and Limited. The range is designed to satisfy the needs of every type of consumer, from entry-level whisky drinkers to drinkers who are seeking rarity and exclusivity.
Ballantine’s heritage can be traced back to 1827, when grocer George Ballantine began to offer a selection of blended Scotch whiskies of the highest quality to his customers in Edinburgh. Since then, five generations of Ballantine’s Master Blenders have accumulated over 180 years of whisky blending know-how, with Sandy Hyslop at the helm today.
