AUSTRALIA. Travel Point Group is to introduce a pioneering VR gaming lounge at Perth Airport in May. It will be located in Terminal 1, Level 1 before security, and will be accessible to all domestic and international arriving or departing passengers in the T1/T2 airport precinct, as well as the general public.
Gaming Point will feature one immersive Virtual Reality (VR) escape room, which can accommodate up to five players per session, with each session lasting 30 to 45 minutes. The VR escape room also runs eight separate games to choose from, with a Game Master from the Gaming Point team to guide the group.
The lounge is equipped with individual high-speed internet gaming stations, connected to the streaming network, which allows gamers to continue their own gaming on their own accounts. There are also solo gaming options.
Perth Airport Acting Chief Commercial Officer Rebecca Cook welcomed the new entertainment concept. She said: “We are excited to offer our passengers increased entertainment options and look forward to partnering with Point Group as they deliver this new offer.”
The Travel Point Group joint venture is a collaboration with store design and building specialist Concourse.
The name originated from Gaming Point, a commercial arm of UK firm Luggage-Point, which runs retail and services concessions across 16 international airports.
This new concept was highlighted by Director Graeme Stewart in a Moodie Davitt Report interview last year.
Stewart commented: “Point Group is in advanced discussions with many major airports around the globe to deliver exciting new experiential offers using VR and high-speed gaming facilities at airports. We are so pleased to have finalised the agreement with Perth Airport.” ✈
