FRANCE. Qatar Duty Free’s acclaimed shopping offer at Hamad International Airport in Doha was last night recognised with the Airport Retailer of the Year at the annual Frontier Awards.
The culmination of this year’s Awards, ably run by DFNI-Frontier at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, Airport Retailer of the Year is a further feather in the cap for the Qatar Airways-owned retailer after it also snapped up Airport Food & Beverage Offer of the Year at the recent Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Awards in Bangkok, Thailand run by The Moodie Davitt Report.
This is the first time that any company has won both awards in the same year.
The award was accepted by Qatar Duty Free Senior Vice President Thabet Musleh , who was joined on stage by members of his management team and the retailer’s special guest on the evening, New Zealand All Blacks rugby legend Sonny Bill Williams.
Qatar Duty Free also earned the Best Shop Opening Award for its acclaimed TimeVallée store.
Musleh was also recognised for his critical influence in driving Qatar Duty Free’s impressive qualitative development in recent years with an Outstanding Contribution Award.
Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin was a popular winner of the Frontier Pioneer Award.
Outgoing Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail Chairman & CEO Mohit Lal received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Singapore Changi Airport was named Best Airport for Retail (separate to Airport Retailer of the Year).
In a fine tribute on the evening, Frontier saluted the life and career of Dufry Chief Executive Officer Operations Eugenio Andrades, one of travel retail’s most-respected executives, who passed away in May. ✈
