Skagen Denmark stays true to its heritage for Autumn/Winter collection

The new women’s Stretch Mesh 821XS Series fashion watches are inspired by Denmark’s picturesque shores

Skagen Designs has unveiled its Autumn/Winter 2012 collection of watches and jewellery for the Skagen Denmark brand, which will be exhibited at the upcoming Baselworld trade fair.

This season’s collections are a celebration of its Danish heritage and core design elements.

“We continue to stay true to what has made Skagen Denmark products so highly revered by our customers around the world by offering luxurious products at great value and competitive pricing,” noted the brand’s founders Henrik and Charlotte Jorst.

Stretch Mesh 821XS Series

The new women’s line of fashionable Stretch Mesh watches, the 821XS Series, is inspired by Denmark’s picturesque shores, with its shifting sands and tall grasses.

This series comprises three new styles with dainty demi-square cases in silver, gold and charcoal tones bordered by Swarovski Elements crystals, a mirrored border and sunray brushed dials. The watches contain a Japanese quartz movement.

The stretch mesh band wraps around the wrist without the need for clasps or adjustment.

Large Faceted Glass models feature shiny silver, gold and charcoal-toned steel links and cases with mineral faceted glass over a mirrored border. A small model has faceted glass over a mirrored border on a gold or rose gold case

Faceted Glass

Sun reflecting off the surface of water was the inspiration behind the Faceted Glass collection, which features shiny steel. Shiny silver, gold and charcoal-toned steel links and cases are enhanced by an innovative super-hardened mineral faceted glass over a mirrored border, creating a prism halo above a matt or vertically brushed multifunction chronograph dial.

These styles are joined by a small model featuring gleaming elements of faceted glass over a mirrored border on a gold or rose gold case, which encompasses a vertically brushed dial with 12 crystal indicators made of Swarovski Elements. To create visual depth, the company’s signature steel mesh band has a groove of gold or rose gold along its length.

Gradient Dials

The 890 Series are masculine styles that are designed to recall the elements of Denmark’s coast. Two watches feature a shiny steel case with matt top ring and flat glass housing a clean, gradient dial that radiates out from silver to charcoal or brown. This creates a sunburst effect out to matching black or brown Italian leather straps that evoke the look and texture of driftwood.

A Japanese quartz movement and a day/date function finish off a style that is described as both coastal and professional in its appeal.

Functionality

For this season, the company set out to design a series of watches that pay homage to the simple forms of watchmaking with a slight update to give a nod to contemporary fashion.

The 989 series features a minimalist matt dial in black and grey with a vertically brushed outer-ring and simple hourly indicators which then drop away to a subtly concentric lower dial accentuating a day and date function.

A vertically brushed case with shined and bevelled edges and super-hardened mineral crystal are driven into leather straps.

Ultra Slim Ceramic

In 2001, Skagen Denmark unveiled its 233 series of watches. Several design awards later, including the Japanese Good Design Award 2011, this simple yet striking style has become the flagship model and embodies the elements of Danish design for which the Skagen Denmark brand is recognised, the firm said.

To celebrate this achievement, the company has created an innovative Ultra Slim Ceramic case in white or black housing matching layered matt dials with a red second hand and steel hourly indicators.

These models are made complete with leather matt straps in white and black.

This timepiece, designed by famed industrial designer Hiromichi Konno, has a simple, minimal design

Hiromichi Konno

This timepiece, designed by famed industrial designer Hiromichi Konno, incorporates elegant and simple design, mixed with precise function.

The watch features a distinctive square case in a refined, roundish outline, accentuated with stylish white and yellow hands over a shiny black dial. An Italian leather strap adds the finishing touch to a watch that, as Konno himself put it, “was created to weave the beauty of contrast and harmony together into a minimal design.”

Hiromichi Konno first gained international acclaim for the functional design of his RIN chair while working for renowned art-as-furniture collective, Fritz Hansen.

The company’s collaboration with Konno “once again proudly announces the alliance of Danish minimalism with Japanese precision”, the brand said.
