SSP America opens five restaurants at Winnipeg Richardson International

CANADA. Five new SSP America-operated restaurants have opened at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Freshii, True Burger, Prairie Bistro and Skylights Lounge are located beyond passenger screening on the domestic and international side, while travellers heading to the USA will be able to dine at UrbanCrave, which features a newly extended bar area with additional seating.

“Initial feedback from travellers and airport staff about the new restaurants and enhanced seating areas has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Winnipeg Airports Authority President and CEO Barry Rempel. “In partnership with our experienced airport food and beverage services provider, SSP America, we are constantly reviewing the needs of our customers and striving to offer them an array of appealing food choices.”

SSP America Chief Executive Officer Michael Svagdis commented: “We are extremely appreciative of the opportunity to not only continue our long-term relationship with the [airport] team, but also bring a fresh new group of brands that provide travellers with a variety of choices and service styles.”

SSP America created UrbanCrave in response to the growing popularity of street food

Freshii offers meals and snacks that are designed to be nutritious and energising, including salads, wraps, noodle and rice bowls, burritos and soups. True Burger combines the convenience of a fast casual burger restaurant with high-quality ingredients, including naturally raised beef in their patties.

Prairie Bistro, a “nod to the breadbasket of Canada”, aims to provide a diverse menu suiting all passengers. Oatmeal, pancakes or skillet scramblers are offered at breakfast, while lunch and dinner options include a variety of starters and small plates such as a “˜Prairie salad’, warm spinach and artichoke dip and loaded cheese fries. Entrees include herb chicken and a variety of burgers and sandwiches.

Located next to Prairie Bistro is Skylights Lounge, which features a cocktail menu in addition to serving beer and wine. It has been designed to be an area for travellers to relax in before their flights.

SSP America brand UrbanCrave is said to be one of the first outlets to have brought “street eats” to the airport arena. It serves classic street food options “full of fun, originality and powerful taste”, according to the operator.
