SPAIN. SSP has opened its first two Café & Tapas outlets, bringing the national brand to Tenerife Sur and Malaga airports, with a third set to commence operations at Tenerife Sur next month.
The first outlet in Tenerife covers 260sq m and seats 120 customers, and is located landside, between the main check-in counter areas. In Malaga the café can be found landside close to the check-in desks.
Café & Tapas, which has 169 locations across Spain, serves a range of tapas and pinchos, including traditional Spanish “˜tortilla’ with confit of onions, patatas bravas, Iberian ham croquetas, and meat balls in a classic tomato sauce. It is also said to be well-known for its coffee.

SSP says Café & Tapas is already proving to be popular among holidaymakers |
According to SSP, its eye-catching and clearly identifiable branding is instantly recognisable in an international environment, making it ideal for the airport market.
SSP Spain Managing Director Blanca Ripoll said: “Our new Café & Tapas outlets are totally different to the existing offers, allowing our client AENA to add a new dimension to its food & beverage facilities at both Tenerife and Malaga.
“It works well for a travel location looking to add a quality coffee offer as well as a brand proposition that is distinctly Spanish. At both Malaga and Tenerife Sur, it’s proving popular with the holidaymaker who wants to keep the magic of a trip to Spain alive that little bit longer.
“While Café & Tapas has been a part of our brand portfolio for some time, these are our first Café & Tapas outlets, and we are delighted to be building our relationship with this highly successful Spanish brand.”
SSP now runs 13 outlets at Tenerife Sur – where it has been operating for 15 years – including Caffè Ritazza, the pub Bill Bentley, bar brand Gambrinus, Burger King, Upper Crust and hot-dog brand Currywurst Express.
At Malaga, where it has operated for 18 years, it runs 16 units, including Caffè Ritazza, Caviar House & Prunier, Starbucks, Upper Crust, Burger King, Soho Coffee, Spanish restaurant brand VIPS, Pizza Hut and O’Learys.
