Stars of 2020: Qatar Duty Free’s front line heroes

QATAR. In our special series to close out 2020, we focus on the heroes and heroines who stood up as a global pandemic raged and ensured that airport, travel retail store and restaurant environments were safe and hygienic, that shelves were stocked and that customers – though few in number – could still enjoy a reassuring shopping, dining or general airport experience.

With the assistance and input of our industry partners, we present the stories of some of those individuals and teams who ensured that a pulse still beat through travel retail this year. As reported in The Moodie Davitt eZine, we salute these front line workers as our People of the Year, with our online coverage building on the pictorial in our year-end edition.

Many heroes emerged from the customer-facing teams of Qatar Duty Free at Hamad International Airport, and across the Qatar Airways Group, in 2020. We present images of some of those teams at key moments and events across the year.

Taking the lead: Qatar Duty Free team members maintaining healthy and safe trading environments (and managing some of the most eye-catching and high-profile promotions in the industry) amid COVID-19

Qatar Airways crews helped the airline grow its reputation amid the crisis as it repatriated over two million people and maintained a strong flying schedule even as many borders closed

Qatar Duty Free was one of many organisations from across the travel retail community that embraced The Moodie Davitt Report’s call (in late March) to join together and applaud the work of the medical community worldwide – especially the doctors, nurses and other frontline staff involved helping the world deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. The video above shows Qatar Duty Free staff and management showing their support at Hamad International.
