The Estée Lauder Companies makes key Global Philanthropy appointment

The Estée Lauder Companies has named Nancy Mahon (pictured) Senior Vice President, Global Philanthropy and Corporate Citizenship, reporting directly to Executive Chairman William P. Lauder. Mahon will continue as Global Director of the MAC AIDS Fund, for which she reports to Group President John Demsey and MAC Global President Karen Buglisi Weiler.

In her new role, Mahon will design and implement a global corporate citizenship strategy, encompassing all philanthropic, cause-marketing, and employee engagement programmes across the company. She will have responsibility for synergising best practices in these areas across the company’s brands, regions and functions, further integrating citizenship into the company’s strategy. She will also play a leadership role in measuring and communicating the business and societal impacts of these initiatives on brand awareness, consumer engagement and loyalty, and employee recruitment and retention.

“Nancy is a seasoned leader with a unique combination of experience spanning the corporate philanthropy, legal and public policy fields,” noted William Lauder. “With Nancy’s proven ability to create positive social impact, her appointment is exciting for our company, our philanthropic partners, as well as the communities we touch.”

“I am inspired both by the Lauder family heritage of philanthropy and The Estée Lauder Companies’ commitment to being an active and engaged corporate citizen in the communities in which it does business,” commented Mahon. “Businesses have more opportunities than ever before to create meaningful change, opportunities that need to offer both business and societal value. With the support of The Estée Lauder Companies, I’m committed to ideas that inspire action from our employees, partners, and consumers and, hopefully, other businesses looking to make corporate citizenship a priority.”

Mahon will succeed Deborah Krulewitch in this role. Krulewitch, Senior Vice President, Corporate Administration, has overseen philanthropic contributions since joining the company in 1988. She will continue to oversee Executive Office Administration, Office Services, and the Company’s partnerships with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Fund.

“I’m thrilled that Nancy has agreed to take on this new role,” said Krulewitch. “Philanthropy and citizenship are part of our company’s DNA, and I’m excited to watch this area of our business continue to grow under Nancy’s proven leadership.”

Mahon joined The Estée Lauder Companies as Vice President, MAC Cosmetics and Executive Director of the MAC AIDS Fund in 2006. Over the past eight years, she has implemented best-in-class grant-making strategies while overseeing a four-fold increase in the MAC AIDS Fund’s charitable contributions budget, creating a global online database and instituting rigorous metrics and evaluation processes. She also launched MAC’s first global employee volunteer day, which last year engaged more than 3,100 employees on World AIDS Day.

In recognition of MAC’s proven leadership for this cause, Mahon was appointed by President Obama as Chair of the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in 2011, a role she continues to serve in today.

Mahon was promoted to Senior Vice President, MAC Cosmetics in 2009. In 2011, she was named Senior Vice President for Philanthropy and Social Initiatives and given responsibility for cause-marketing programmes for Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone London and La Mer, in addition to MAC.
