The TFWA World Exhibition & Conference kicked off today, marking a significant milestone for the global travel retail association – its 40th anniversary.
Addressing a packed auditorium at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen reflected on the remarkable journey of TFWA since its inception in 1984.
He talked about the association’s humble beginnings when two visionary founders, Patrick Moniotte and Jean-Philippe Haumont, set out to create a platform that would bring the industry together.
Over the past four decades, from the democratisation of air travel to the digital revolution, the industry has continuously adapted to changing consumer behaviours and preferences.
“Today’s travellers are more discerning, tech-savvy and socially conscious than ever before,” Juul-Mortensen observes. “As we look to the future, it is crucial that we understand the needs and expectations of the next generation of consumers, the so-called Generation Alpha.”
