CHINA. The Moodie Davitt Report has published the third edition of our regular weekly posts via our new Official Account.
The WeChat update featured several breaking travel retail stories, including the debut of Hainan Expo mascots Yuan Yuan and Xiao Xiao to consumer audiences in China.
It also announced the second Virtual Travel Retail Expo, which will take place from 18-22 October 2021.
The hugely successful event will build on the success of the inaugural October 2020 Virtual Expo, with several breakthrough improvements planned around the areas of buyer-seller interaction, a streamlined conference programme and, importantly, an enhanced platform for Chinese visitors.
The post also recapped the official opening ceremony of CNSC’s new post-arrivals duty free store in Chongqing. Almost 160 brands are offered in the new store across a wide array of categories, including cosmetics, fragrances, fashion & accessories, handbags, leathergoods, food and confectionery, and other items.
We also shared the positive news that Hainan offshore duty free sales had rocketed to RMB4,790 million (US$736 million) in February, up from RMB3.70 billion (US$568.5 million) in January, representing a record month for the sector.
Elsewhere in Hainan, we featured three blockbuster beauty animations from Lancôme, Kiehl’s and Sulwhasoo, which delighted shoppers through various omnichannel and retailtainment elements.
Our WeChat post also featured DFS Group’s three new branded pop-up stores at various luxury hotels in Macau, as the retailer continues to expand its footprint in the key market.
