This episode’s special guest on TRI-POD, The Moodie Davitt Report’s video podcast series in association with The SEVA Group, is Ellen Torvi, San Francisco-based Director of Gold Bar Whiskey, renowned for its California wine cask-finished whiskies, now starting to enjoy considerable travel retail traction after outstanding local market success over recent years.
Its not just the whiskey itself that is distinctive, the brand’s signature gold bars packaging and bottle are dazzling standouts in any bar or on any retail shelf.
As we discover, Ellen’s career route into the whisky business, which she joined seven years ago, was anything but traditional. In fact her last role was with Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in 2014.
In this compelling and fun episode, we learn how Ellen grew up in rural Canada before later studying at four different universities in four different countries. She then held several senior roles in the energy business before joining Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in a marketing and international business development function.
Find out how a fateful conversation led to her quitting that top job and becoming the first employee at a yet to launch American whiskey company.
As usual with TRI-POD, we don’t just talk about work. Once again we fly our guest on TRI-POD Airlines to our resident duty free island. What two duty free items would Ellen choose as creature comforts; what choice of music and reading; and who would be her three chosen dinner companions, either from history or living today?
You’ll have to listen to the podcast to find out but we can promise you some fascinating and eclectic choices. ✈
