UK sunglasses house Waterhaul has partnered with Condor Ferries to introduce the brand’s 100% recycled fishing gear sunglasses onboard this season.
Through this alliance, Cornwall company Waterhaul and Condor aim to jointly increase awareness about the impact of ‘ghost gear’ (fishing gear that has been abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded) on the marine environment.
Waterhaul (the term originates from Newfoundland cod fisheries, describing the hauling in of an empty net) is a Cornish social-enterprise, run by a team of surfers, marine conservationists and ocean enthusiasts. It shares a common mission with Condor Ferries of removing abandoned and discarded fishing gear from the ocean and repurposing it as high-quality functional products.
A range of six different styles of sunglasses will be available on Condor Ferries routes this summer, showcased on specially designed PoS stands.
Condor Ferries Buyer Nicola Lemon commented: “At Condor Ferries, we are committed to supporting environmentally friendly brands, and Waterhaul aligns perfectly with our values.
“Waterhaul’s innovative mission to transform ocean plastic into high-quality eyewear is impressive. We are particularly struck by the exceptional quality and stylish designs of their glasses, crafted from recycled fishing nets.
“Furthermore, their lifetime guarantee ensures our customers receive both superior products and enduring peace of mind.”
Waterhaul Travel retail Coordinator Jonathon Corbett said: “We’re so excited to be working with Condor Ferries to engage people who will be using their crossings to discover our mission of removing ghost gear from the ocean and our solution of repurposing it into products designed to connect people with protecting the ocean.
“Travel retail offers us and our partners a brilliant platform to educate people about the positive ocean action we’re taking, and collectively remove more fishing gear from the environment.”
Each product sold helps fund Waterhaul’s ongoing endeavours to protect the ocean. The sunglasses brand hopes to partner with more retailers who wish to support its environmental protection efforts. 🛳️
