UK. Integrative medicine expert Andrew Weil made a rare in-store appearance at a UK department store this week to talk about the new Origins Mega-Mushroom range.

Weil, who created The Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Collection, gave a stage interview with YOU Health Editor Sarah Stacey following a reception at Selfridges’ Gallery Restaurant, during his only in-store appearance worldwide.

Weil, a world-renowned expert in integrated health, firmly believes in the “fusion of body, brain and spirit”. He promoted the Mega-Mushroom range as a part of his “beauty comes from the inside” philosophy which combines aspects of traditional Western medicine and alternative remedies.

The Origins Mega-Mushroom skincare range uses the power of mushrooms to fight ageing by focusing on combating inflammation of the skin. According to Weil, mushrooms have anti-inflammatory properties, boost health and improve the skin’s resistance.

Said Weil: “You need to treat the whole person and respect nature as a healer. Beauty reflects health; there is no beauty without health.”

The Mega-Mushroom face cream and serum duo was released in the US eight months ago and made its travel retail debut in Copenhagen this March. It is now available in travel retail worldwide. Origins is planning to launch a skin cleanser, lotion, eye care products and baby care products from this range.

Mushroom miracle

The Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Collection blends a combination of mushrooms famed for their anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, commonly used to support allergy and cancer treatments.

Combined with traditional Asian medicinal ingredients such as ginger, turmeric and basil, it creates a unique skincare formula which Origins believes can optimise the skin’s defence against ageing.

Reishi: Like cordycep, it is known for its revitalising properties, but is also good for the complexion.
Chaga: The “birch mushroom” known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Currently, the collection consists of the Mega Mushroom Face Serum, the Mega Mushroom Face Cream and the Essential Oil Blend.

The Essential Oil Blend includes geranium, patchouli, lavender, mandarin, orange and olibanum.
