Lanvin and Inter Parfums poised for fragrance deal – 07/06/04

FRANCE. Inter Parfums and Lanvin are in the throes of negotiating a global licensing agreement for the creation, development and distribution of fragrances under the Lanvin name.

Lanvin announced that it would be exiting the fragrance and watch business, as part of a radical restructuring programme, earlier this year (The Moodie Report.com, 1 April).

The proposed agreement would incorporate an upfront license fee, advertising expenditures and royalty payments, in addition to the purchase of existing inventory.

As reported previously, last year Lanvin registered a loss of €22 million on sales of €80 million. However, sales of Lanvin fragrances reached US$33 million in 2003, and a company spokesperson described this segment of the couture house’s business as “thriving”.

Inter Parfums develops, manufactures and distributes prestige perfumes and cosmetics as the exclusive worldwide licensee for Burberry, S.T. Dupont, Paul Smith, Christian Lacroix, Celine and Diane von Furstenberg. The company also has controlling interest in Nickel SA, a men’s skincare company.
